Why a Career in Sales?

It is the money, isn't it? Yes, the money making opportunities is the factor that drives most people to investigate a sales position or a career in sales. In fact, a 2007 survey by the Pew Research Center found that 81% of Generation Next (18-to 25-year-olds) said that getting rich is their generation’s first or second most important goal in life.

However, there are many more intangible reasons why sales people like their job. There is a reason why it was recently ranked as one of the top jobs in the country for job satisfaction.

At the same time, it is also one of the hardest positions to fill for companies since the sales people play such an important role in any company's success. In recent Manpower Inc. (NYSE: MAN) survey of nearly 33,000 employers across 23 countries and territories, it found that sales representatives was the most difficult position in these 23 countries to fill.  In the United States, the results were the same with sales representatives taking the top spot.

Therefore, we have a gap. There are people who want to be in sales and "picky" companies who are looking for the right sales people. My book will be to assist people who want to be in sales by organizing their thoughts and research so they can present themselves as a confident potential sales candidate in an industry, company and position that is the best fit for them and the hiring company to reduce "job hopping" and increase “job satisfaction”.
